I have was scouring the net looking for military history forums and came across this one, so here goes.

I live in North Devon and am aware that the whole coastal area was used during 1943/4 as a training area for D Day and parts of the site are still to this day used for military training. I am also aware that a book on the subject has been written and have attended a tour by the author.

My question are:

Where could I find the rules on searching these sites and others and actions on finding items / artifacts.

Where can I find methods of documenting and indeed how to identify items that are found.

I am aware that it is illegal to remove expended military ordnance (and dangerous of course) but what about any other items. I have recently located what could be pieces of a vehicle probably used for target practice and was wondering how to go about identifying them.

The areas in question are open to the public and according to the book I have read metal detecting is not tollerated (Probably due to the extensive use of ordnance in the area).  

So far I have taken phographs and GPS references.
