On behalf of the Laser Scanning Forum and its existing members, it is our pleasure to invite you to join a new forum. www.laserscanning.org.uk We are hoping this forum will become a vital source of information for the technology and attract members from all over the world to discuss the topic of 3d laser scanning and all it has to offer. Even when first introduced, all the major benefits of this technology were immediately apparent to the surveying industry. Surveyors were instantly impressed with the speed at which the equipment captured 3D data. Complex 3D environments are captured faster than alternative techniques. The potential of laser scanning for saving time and money together with its ability to enhance the design process and reduce data collection errors makes it an attractive alternative to traditional data collection techniques. This latest technology offers many great advantages over traditional surveying methods. Best Regards, The Laser Scanning Forum laserscanning.org.uk

Thanks for the post. This looks like it could be a very useful site. Any chance you could open up your forums so that non-members can at least view the forum posts without registering? Steve White

Hi Steve, We did consider this but we are trying to get members and not just guests. It only takes a minute to register then the full board is viewable. I am new to running this forum though so do you think it would be best to make it viewable, do you think the viewing guest would register and take part or simply view and leave. Phil

Ok I will do this now thanks for the advice. There is not much content for now but hopefully when we get more people posting it will become a good site for laser scanning.

Good stuff. If you have an RSS feed for your latest posts, I could add it into a reader on the Online Archaeology portal? Steve White

Phil - I have loads of different feeds available. Here's a list of some feeds I collected together, mine are included in them: http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/ArchaeologyNews/tabid/62/Default.aspx All of my map data is also available as RSS: http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/UKArchaeologyMap/UKArchaeologyMapViewCatalogue/tabid/54/Default.aspx You'll need to find an RSS reader mod for your application. I'm not sure how your application works but the best thing to do would be to make sure you can add a reusable feed reader so you can use it on n pages. Steve White

Phil - I just noticed that your RSS feed of your forums is returning all posts. Any chance you could throttle it down to say to last 20 or 30 posts. You can see the impact on download speed it will have soon because it's currently loading everything from 2006: http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/ArchaeologySoftware/LaserScanningForum/tabid/122/Default.aspx I can throttle it at my end but it makes more sense to do it at the source. cheers, Steve White
