| Due to our successful first time of having a training week, Bexley Archaeological Group have decided to hold another one, again, first week of August.
"Autumn” site - North Cray near Bexley, Kent
Experienced and novice excavators from outside the Group are welcome to join us at our on-going site named Autumn. Minimum unaccompanied age is 16.
All excavators will have the opportunity to experience the main tasks associated with an excavation under the supervision and guidance of a member of the Group. Tasks carried out during this excavation will include:
• trowelling
• finds processing
• surveying
• drawing
• field walking
The fee for the week will be £50.00 for non-members. This includes annual membership to Bexley Archaeology Group, insurance, Certificate of Attendance and admin.
All persons attending the excavation are advised to check that their Tetanus Jab is still effective.
Work on site will commence at 9.30am and continue until 16.30pm. There will be breaks for refreshments at 10.45am and 15.00, with a lunch break 12.30-13.30pm. Refreshments will not be available on the site, however, a tap for fresh water is available for hot drinks and a pub within 5 minutes of walking. Please bring a 4" Spear and Jackson Trowel, kneeling pad etc (well marked with your name). Wear appropriate clothing, footwear (not wellies or trainers) and garden gloves.
A leaflet introducing the site will be issued on confirmation of booking.
Transport and Accommodation:
The site is situated off North Cray Road, Bexley, Kent. The nearest train station is Bexley Station, which is about 30 minute walk to the site, however, it can be arranged for those needing a lift from/to the station. For drivers, parking for cars has been permitted in the White Cross carpark situated on North Cray Road, and less than 5 minutes walk to the site. Please ensure that drivers park in the far left hand corner as respect to the Publication.
The site is roughly 5 minutes drive from Old Bexley Village, where two bed and breakfasts can be recommended for those travelling further afield.

Further to our training week,BEXLEY ARCHAEOLOGICAL GROUP has now more than one site and volunteers are required!

Our sites are open every weekend until October/November and reopens usually March. Membership is just £12.00 for the year.
Excavators will have the opportunity to experience the main tasks associated with an excavation under the supervision and guidance of a member of the Group.
