Hi, I am looking for Archaeology work experience in or around Suffolk. I am hoping to pursue a career in the Greek and Roman Department in the British Museum when I have finished studying at university and would love to have work experience in archaeology for this. I am looking for sites that focus on Roman history. I am a very hard worker and would be so pleased to have this opportunity! If anyone knows any information I would be eternally grateful!! I am looking for work experience that is either free or costs very little as, being a student, I have hardly any money! Thank you in advance! xxx

Bexley is kent is situated near Watling Street. We have bits of roman pottery now coming up - some parts of the site are still in the top layer of rubble. We think we have black burnish ware I and II but this has not been clarified by the Museum of London who are unsure themselves. The site is also very new to where some people think was a Roman Villa but again, this has not been excavated. We did have a lovely brooch unearthed - about 6 inches from the top surface. Basically, the site used to be houses built in 1699, but got demolished in 1970 so enable the road to be widened. Therefore, the road got turned upside down, and the older artefacts at the mo were on top!! Confused?? A resistivity survey last year has shown a strange area of dots... we are hoping that this could be a hypocaust. For more information, you can contact Pip Pulfer, our site director at his email address pips-pad@tiscali.co.uk. Hi Unsure if your interested in this or not, but I am currently excavating at the weekends with my local archaeological Group, Bexley Archaeological Group. We do however, have a training week in August 6th-10th - £32.00 to excavate for the week, including surveying etc. If you are interested, a form can be printed off at www.bag.org.uk. However, please email pips-pad@tiscali.co.uk, who is the site director and he will send you one and give you more info on the excavation. I was there at the weekend and got burnt rotten! Loads of finds were coming up and afterwards a nice pint at the pub situated 2 minutes away. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to email me.
