| | 03 Aug 2006 02:19 PM | | Can anyone supply me with some shp files?
I'd like to try to convert them to XML so I can experiment adding polylines onto my Google Maps application.
Also, anyone know of any good conversion software for shp to XML?
many thanks,

Don't agree about the application being user-friendly - why is it user-friendly, just because it has a Flash interface? Yahoo maps also has a Flash interface and is more user friendly in my opinion, but as yet doesn't cover areas outside of the US.

| | 03 Aug 2006 09:27 PM | | | Cheers Jonathon
I've used FW Tools before now:
http://fwtools.maptools.org/
And also fired a mail at this company (no answer yet) to find out more about shp2xml:
http://www.proximityone.com/shp2xml.htm
Any others you know of?
Do you have any shp files I can experiment with?

| | 25 Apr 2008 09:01 PM | | | I just found this (SHPtoTXT): http://www.obviously.com/gis/shp2text/
I just ran it against some sample shp data and it produced some well-formed XML.
Anyone got some simple archaeology shp files they can give me so I can run some further tests?
thanks. | | | |

I then plotted the points on my GoogleMap as polylines. It's great for linear data such as Roman roads. Not so good for detailed excavation data because of the limited zooms leves of GMaps (200 yds is the lowest I think).
But overall, pretty positive.

| | 25 Apr 2008 09:01 PM | | | That's a shame. When I've finished writing the new User guide for the map I'm going to write some articles on how I've done things (SHP>XML / MIDAS XML / Google Earth / Google Maps). | | | |
