Go this from my bookclub the other day-The Handbook to daily life in Rome. Not only is it a sort of encyclopaedia to Roman history, but it's split into sections life politics, religion, war etc. It gives details like all the provinces and a whole host of stuff. The flysheet says they do other titles on Greece, Mesopotamia etc. Might also be worth looking at. Yours in History, Gordon
