| I've added the GIS books back to the main site:
http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/ArchaeologyandGIS/GISBooks/tabid/89/Default.aspx
Archaeology and GIS is now a main section which I'll be updating soon.
More books to follow.... |

| Steve, a good book on GIS is:
James Conolly and Mark lake 2006 Geographical Information Systems in Archaeology. Cambridge University Press. Cambrige.
This is the reference book for the UCL GIS and SPatial Analysis in Archaeology masters (which i am currently taking, and Mark Lake is one of my lectuerers!)
Also I have been trying to get the best of british archaeology and uses of GIS/laser scanning from www.youtube.com (also quite a lot of comic stuff) could I put up a link to my group? I have 24 various videos os far.

| Another book if you chose to use GRASS GIS (the free software!) is
Markus Neteler and Helena Mitasova 2004 Open source gis: A GRASS GIS Approach (2nd edition)
I bouht a copy but could only find it in hard back £50 bit pricy but worth it I think esp if your going to use the software alot! and its cheaper than buying the latest ESRI ArcINFO!
I think they are the main contenders

| Hi Gary -
Many thanks for these tips, I'll definitely add these to the books section.
As far as adding links go, you can add as many as you like. Login to the main site and go to the links section: http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/Links/tabid/81/Default.aspx
Just add them to a category and they'll go through a swift moderation process.
How's the course going by the way?

| Its going very well, Lots of essays and very intensive, but i'm still enjoying it! This term we look at hydrological software and how it can be used for artefact movement and colluvial build up. Also learning databases, Agent based simulation (using java scripting)and lots of spatial statistics! And I've just started my dissertation (on stone circles)
Think I need a holiday!
Thanks for asking

| That all sounds interesting stuff. If you're ever interested in sharing your knowledge on OA - either in articles or your own GIS blog, just let me know. I'm sure there are a lot of people interested in this but feel a bit daunted when first starting out.
I've added those 2 books, thanks again.
All the best,
Steve White |
