 | | 25 Apr 2008 09:00 PM | | Hi,
New to the forum and quite new to Archaeology.
Could anyone shed any light on what could have been where the circles on the photo. There is also evidence of buildings to the right of the club house.
Many thanks
Paul

Any ideas yourself Paul?
If you want something even more intriguing, there are a couple of dozen mysterious circles in a field to the right of Blackburn Road, where both it and the canal cross under the railway line while travelling East. Personally I'd love to know what they are!

I am not sure if this is where you are talking about but it is blackburn road next to the canal and the railway does go over. I have got an arial photo from 1960 and present.
These are old lime kilns I believe, they are actually in good condition. The canal basin is now infilled.

The circles I was referring to are in an upside-down 'u' shape made by the area Buttermere St-Blackburn Rd-Hill Road (North End).
Love to know what they are.
