New w  "Website launched as the UK gears up for the Festival of British Archaeology

The Council for British Archaeology has launched a new Festival of British Archaeology website. The countdown has begun to this annual event, described by the CBA as an ‘extravaganza of heritage-related activities’, taking place between 18 July and 2 August. The 2008 Festival drew an estimated 260,000 visitors, prompting expectations that this year may see more than 300,000 turn out throughout the fortnight. The new website puts the public directly in touch with the archaeology happening in their area through a handy Google Maps facility. Users can enter their postcode and display the excavations, guided walks, re-enactments, demonstrations, lectures and more, and then download directions, times and any additional information. Those interested as either an organiser or a visitor can sign up to an eNewsletter and an RSS feed, keeping them in touch both in the run-up to the Festival, and afterwards as plans for take shape for 2010. Visit the new website here: www.archaeologyfestival.org.uk "
