 | | 25 Apr 2008 09:00 PM | | Hey everyone, My name is Kelly and I am your newest member!
History and Archaeology have always been a passion of mine however I decided I didn't want to possibly taint this interest by a ton of study and stress at University by becoming an Archeologist. So instead I am studying to become a Landscape Architect to pay the bills in the long run. Having said that, I always promised myself that I'd find a way to keep history and archaeology in my life to keep things interesting! However, over the past three years while I've been studying I haven't had a lot of time for anything else! I decided that enough is enough and I need to pick up my passion for history. I was trying to think of ways to do this and thought of possibly volunteering to help excavate of a dig somewhere. During my search I stumbled across this website and thought that becoming a member of this forum would also be a great way to pick up my interest again. I'm not sure how much I can bring to the table but I'm really looking forward to learning alot from you guys.
Kelly

And a very warm welcome to the forums!
I'm an amateur archaeologist myself although an historian by training, and I find that the vocational aspect of my hobby is more than enough to keep me occupied for several decades.
I'm sure you'll find plenty of people here willing to share knowledge and experience with you, and I'm sure there's a lot you can probably teach us as well.
Regards,Gordon

Unsure if your interested in this or not, but I am currently excavating at the weekends with my local archaeological Group, Bexley Archaeological Group, Kent, England. We do however, have a training week in August 6th-10th - £32.00 to excavate for the week, including surveying etc.
If you are interested, a form can be printed off at www.bag.org.uk. However, please email pips-pad@tiscali.co.uk, who is the site director and he will send you one and give you more info on the excavation.
I was there at the weekend and got burnt rotten! Loads of finds were coming up and afterwards a nice pint at the pub situated 2 minutes away.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to email me.
Regards
Clare Gillett
