I want to try to have a go at producing some QuickTime panarama films of UK sites. So if you have a collection of images of a UK site please send them in. Also would be good to put some UK archaeology photos in the photos gallery... Steve White

Ah, I see. Sort of like the CANMAP facility on the RCAHMS site? BTW, if you want to see how NOT to do it, have a look at the Pastscape site on English Heritage-a good idea squandered, IMHO. Regards, Gordon

Anything particular in mind? Can get you a great shot of the Forth Bridge, various castles, old defences etc. I live within striking distance of the Antonine Wall, Ardoch Legionary fort, stuff like that. Any good? Regards, Gordon

Hmmm - maybe a different approach is needed then. Instead of a photos collection per se, let's get some context. If there was a section based on geographical areas where people could post things that have some archaeological relevance to their area, then that would be much more useful. Then of course it would have to fit into timescale. Let me mull this over and try to get some framework set up for this. Steve White

I see, sort of local forum for members to flag up the treasures in their own districts? That could grow into a superb resource, if members from places like Wiltshire etc get some of the sites from there written up. Would it be broken down into local authority areas, or would that be too bandwidth-hungry? Just thinking that sites which break down into "England", "Wales" etc just seem to lose their effectiveness for people not close enough to actually go and see the sites mentioned. Just a thought. Regards, Gordon

I'm not thinking of a forum for each, no. More on the lines of creating an area on the portal that will be flexible enough for me to add areas/distict via the browser and invite resource posts that way. A bit like the UK resources page at the moment but with a better interface and more flexibility. I'd have to code it from scratch and build the database tables, but I like tinkering. Something I have been mulling over for ages is some sort of interactive map that links to a database. So if you click on Wales for example it then shifts to the counties of Wales. Click on the counties you see the towns, and so on. It would be a major job, but if built with inherent logic it should be able to cope with loads of data quickly. Steve White

Gordon - Any chance of sending in some of these photos you mention - with a word or two about each so I know what they are! We've just bought a new digital camera, so I also hope to get some pics on sites near me (Newtown/Welshpool). Thanks, Steve White
