BEXLEY ARCHAEOLOGICAL GROUP ARE HOLDING TWO CERAMICS WORKSHOPS: SATURDAY 29 MARCH 2008 AND SATURDAY 5 APRIL 2008.
HELD AT SIDCUP CONSERVATIVE CLUB, STATION ROAD, SIDCUP, KENT
The aim of these workshops is to provide guidance by MoLAS specialists for members of the group in identifying and recording of archaeologically recovered ceramics from various periods. Initially, two one-day workshops on successive weekends have been arranged. In both sessions time will be allowed for examining a selection of finds excavated by BAG. The programme for each one is outlined below.

Minimum standards required by the profession
Looking at fabrics the MoLAS way – discussion of how we record at the Museum

Introduction to Prehistoric and Roman pottery, including handling session
Saturday 5th April, 10.00am to 5.00pm

Why count sherds? An introduction to recording and interpreting data
Illustrating pots – what are the choices available?
Presenting the results – an outline of publishing archaeological ceramics
1.30pm – 5.00pm (with a break for tea)
Introduction to medieval pottery of the London region, from Late Saxon to the 15th century
Introduction to post-medieval pottery, from the Tudors to Victoria (including handling sessions)
