English Heritage is the statutory advisor to the Government on historic environment issues. The GIS & Mapping Team is responsible for the capture, maintenance and enhancement of heritage object data to a high degree of accuracy, including the transfer of existing records onto our corporate GIS. The team sits within the Data Sets Development Team which is responsible for the National Monument Record's Heritage data sets, the national historic environment databases of buildings and sites in England and its territorial waters.
Reporting to the GIS and Mapping Team Leader, the post will involve data capture to a high level of accuracy of the statutory spatial record maintained by English Heritage. It will provide operational support for GIS within Heritage Data Management and other English Heritage teams, including the production of maps for statutory and designated areas for Heritage Protection. It will also advise on mapping techniques in line with English Heritage GIS standards, working in close liaison with the Corporate GIS Team and the Data Standards Unit.
You should have a good honours degree or post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline (GIS/Geography/Cartography/Archaeology) or at least 2 years experience in a relevant field. Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS an advantage.
Salary - c£18,000 per annum
