Hi , i am carrying out a private project on german pow camps in this country, the main camps i am researching are in the Cambrideshire area, Yaxley, Sawtry, Fridaybridge, and Thorney Park Farm pow camps. I have now started a web site on the camps, and any information from you ,and your members would be appreciated.,  its the day to day life of the camps that interest me, very little has been written on this subject so i have plenty to go at.

Hi Streaker,
Welcome to the forums!
Congratulations on your new site; I'm currently organising one on Scottish camps, so I know what an uphill task you've got.
As far as books go, this is the list I've compiled from my own research-
http://www.spanglefish.com/scotland...eid=234504
You'll see there are many more books on English camps than Scottish ones! I would say that the MB Sullivan book "Threshholds of Peace" is the best of them all for day to day life, followed closely by Jackson's book "A Taste of Freedom" which details the many escape attempts.
Please let me know how you get on.
Regards, Gordon

Thanks Gordon,
i am very lucky to have met, and spoken to a German pow who was in Friday bridge camp , he later married a local girl, and settled in this Country, he still has many items that he made in the camp ,ie  chess sets and various boxes all made out of scrap wood, i was lucky to see and handle them.

You're a lucky man indeed!
I occasionally get people contacting me & asking me to value PoW artefacts for them, but I'm no antiques expert.
Did you just speak to the gentleman, or did you interview him and record his memories? I just wondered if you would be prepared to share the transcript if it was the latter. I have a couple of records from former PoWs, but it's always interesting to read others.
Regards, Gordon

I did spend a couple of hours round his house talking to him, unfortunately i did not record the conversation with him, or take down any notes.
It was when i first started out searching pow camps in this country.( i have now learned my lesson }.
He did show me , and let me keep a Dear John letter that he wrote in 1948 about his feelings at that time in his life,a very moving letter too.
Also i remember him telling me how he escaped at night through a certain part of the camp perimeter wire to meet his girl friend and return again unnoticed

I must go and speak to him again if i can,
Regards , Andrew

The last link comes up "error" for some reason, Andrew.
Good to see Friday Bridge surviving, even if it is a bit colourful!
