Recently at the Computer Applications in Archaeology (CAA, Berlin) 2007 Mark Mudge from Culture Heritage Imaging gave a presentation on creating 3D models from photos. This is an area I'm becoming increasingly interested in, the only problem (as usual) the 3DM Analyst software (from Adam Technology) cost a fortune as it is developed for the mining industry. does anyone know of any free or cheap alternatives? Thanks Gazz

G'day Gary, We sell the software at an 80% discount from the regular price to non-profit organisations, educational institutes, etc., provided they don't use the software commercially. It is still not "cheap", but it isn't outrageous and it's an order of magnitude cheaper than laser scanners while generally delivering a better result more easily in less time. Of course, that doesn't help those who wish to use it commercially for these kinds of applications, so we have a couple of different ideas on how we can help in that area. Anyone interested should drop me an email. If you're interested, I've added a page with a couple of Mark's projects on it: http://www.adamtech.com.au/3dm/Analyst-HeritageMapping.html
