This company has produced some excellent work over the years. http://www.theatron.co.uk Their models are based on accurate archaeological research. Steve White

That's a lovely piece of work! Do you know if we've seen any of their handiwork on Time Team, or stuff like that? Regards, Gordon

Not sure, but I know the team - they work out of Warwick Uni. I know they did a major piece for an Ancient Theatre CD which is fantastic. They definitely push the boundaries with using VRML as a learning and research tool. Steve White

Yeah, I've asked Drew (the main developer) for some info, but I think he's slightly busy with his own stuff at the moment. He did the VRML model on the right on this page: http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=32&tabid=31 and it was amazing how he did it when he showed me the technique. He produces a section of the pot and then maps the co-orinates in Excel, then puts it into a TextPad-type programme, saves as a .wrl file and viola! Top class. Steve White

I did go down to see the head of the Beazley collection in Oxford to see if they have plans to produce VRML models of their collection. He said in an ideal world they'd love to, but it all comes down to money as usual. There are some great 3D scanners around now that scan texture and colour, so if somone picks this up with money and access, I would say an online VRML artifact collection would be just the ticket. Someone can actually get excel to work?!How do I nominate him for a Nobel prize? Same old story with regards to cash, though, ain't it? Regards, Gordon
