Hello!
I'm really intrested in the field of archaeology and I'm hoping to get in to university to start a course in it by next year, but I was wondering if anyone has any work experience I would be able to take up in the mean time, or knows of anywhere that may be able to offer me any. Even if it would just be a few days.. or one!
I live in Ashford in Kent, and have my own transport so I am able to travel, so any offers will be very much appreciated and greatly considered!!!
Thankyou!
Fiona

Have you tried Britarch, they produce a list of digs that require volunteers, http://www.essexcc.gov.uk if the above link does not work.

Remember we are facing a recession and as such archaeology is always one of the first to suffer along with the building industry.

Find yourself a niche and specialize in it (MSC in GIS or better still a BSC in GIS and archaeology so at least you will be vaguely employable when you leave uni), trowel fodder is 10 a penny and for what... rolling 1 week contracts for 12k a year!

Lastly, good luck.

Thankyou so much with your response. I really appreciate that!!

I havent been able to get on here for such a longtime for various reasons but I will definately follow up your advice of where to look.

Yeah, I thought it would be an area that may be hard to find work in, but I have anticipated that and may try to keep just another little part time job available until I find a permanent job in archaeology, which I'm as confident as I can be that I wont lose it!!

Thankyou again!!!

I'm very appreciative!!!

Fiona.
