THE COUNCIL FOR BRITISH ARCHAEOLOGY 'Archaeology for All' NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY WEEK ADMINISTRATOR (PART TIME) The Council for British Archaeology (CBA), an educational charity, wishes to appoint a National Archaeology Week Administrator to develop and administer the highly successful National Archaeology Week programme of events, as well as aid the marketing of other CBA products and services. The successful candidate will have previous involvement with facilitating events and marketing, preferably within the charity sector. No hard-and-fast set of qualifications is asked for. A good working knowledge of British archaeology is desirable. This is a permanent post, based in York. Initially, the post will be part-time (three days a week), but may grow into a full-time post in due course. Salary £13,000-16,000 pro rata, plus pension benefit, based on experience. Further details are available from The Finance Director, CBA, St Mary's House, 66 Bootham, York YO30 7BZ, tel 01904 671417, fax 01904 671384, email admin@britarch.ac.uk. Closing date for applications 17 February 2006. Interviews early March 2006. FURTHER DETAILS The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) Founded in 1944, the CBA is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Through our Council, eleven English regional branches, CBA Wales/Cymru, our partner the Council for Scottish Archaeology and a small permanent staff, the CBA aims to promote 'Archaeology for All'. It is an educational charity working throughout the UK to involve people in archaeology and to promote appreciation and care of the historic environment for the benefit of present and future generations. The post of National Archaeology Week Administrator will primarily manage work associated with the week long event held in July of each year. In 2005 some 320 organisations took part and over 100,000 persons attended a wide variety of events across the country. The post will also aid the marketing of other CBA products and services to the public. This is an ideal opportunity for someone to develop a role within a leading educational charity. National Archaeology Week The CBA and its Young Archaeologists' Club runs National Archaeology Week, an annual event across the United Kingdom (though principally in England and Wales) which encourages families to visit museums, sites of archaeological and historical interest and archaeological units to see "Archaeology in Action" and take part in activities on-site. In 2005 the event was transformed from a weekend event to one running over nine days. The Culture Minister, David Lammy, commented: 'There is a huge popular fascination with the past and National Archaeology Week is helping everyone get their hands on history. The walks, talks, tours, workshops and re-enactments across the UK will bring to life our neighbours from the past. I commend the enthusiasm and dedication of CBA, professionals and volunteers who work together to make this a tremendously successful week. The skills of archaeologists are vital in ensuring our historic environment is both cared for and understood. I am sure that the Young Archaeologists' Club and family events this week will play an important role in continuing the profession, and ensuring the appreciation of our historical legacy for future generations.' Other CBA products and services include: Membership & Subscriptions The CBA is a membership-based organisation (including the Young Archaeologists' Club) serving a growing number of individuals and organisations who provide links with a wide range of communities and voluntary support Magazines The CBA publishes a lively, full colour bi-monthly magazine, British Archaeology, which goes out to all CBA members and subscribers. The magazine is available through membership and subscription orders, and through retail outlets such as WH Smith, but there is considerable potential to widen the circulation. The Young Archaeol
