I've just finished this off... I use the Yahoo geocoding service because there isn't one in the Google Maps API yet. To test drive: http://www.online-archaeology.co.uk/GoogleMap/ - click on the magnifying glass icon near the top of the zoom control - enter a town like 'coventry' and cick find - the town will appear in the center of the map and data will be loaded within the view

I've turned this off since it was not allowed under the Yahoo! Geocoder rules. You can only use the Y! Geocoder on Y! maps. In it's place I've added the Google Search API. To use, click 'Find' in the left hand pane, the enter UK postcode or town name, then search.
